What is Credit-by-Examination?

Traditionally, credit-by-examination is a process for ascertaining student knowledge and awarding credit for college-level subjects—regardless of how that knowledge was gained—by taking an exam. Examination scores are provided to a student’s college of choice for evaluation and potential awarding of advanced placement or credit. In existence for greater than forty years, credit-by-examination is becoming a popular option for students of all ages.

• Transcripts – Students receive a letter grade on an exam and credits are awarded on an official transcript from Excelsior College.
• Transfer credits – Credits earned through the UExcel program may be transferred to thousands of U.S. colleges or universities, but always check with your school of choice for their policy on transfer credit.
